Or so I thought. I don’t know what exactly was going on, but I had just had this insane dream that I was being put in a hot boiling machine, and as I went through the many processes of being processed, I could feel no pain, but still see all the flames and metal machinery working to fix me. I emerged from two steel rollers, nude and passing through a wall of water and smoke. I suddenly woke up and in actuality my entire right arm was numb, but in my mind I was still in the dream. My entire arm moved as if it were one large bolt of fabric, flowing with me every which way I moved it. It’s as if I had become one with the fabric, and it was such an incredible feeling.
needless to say, if you want intense dreams drink a five hour energy shot, work to your limit and then some, go to a six hour class, eat, shower, and crash.
“If it’s the beaches If it’s the beaches’ sands you want Then you will have them If it’s the mountains’ bending rivers Then you will have them If it’s the wish to run away Then I will grant it Take whatever what you think of While I go gas up the truck Pack the old love letters up We will read them when we forget why we left here”
Wanderlust, the urge for adventure, the desire to know what is over the next hill is like the echo in the back of our minds that speaks of sounds not quite heard and places not quite seen.
Be willing to give yourself over to the moment and take yourself out of the center of your universe. You must believe totally in the lives of the people and the places where you find yourself, even if it causes you to lose faith in the life you left behind.
You need to share with them, participate with them. Sit at their tables, go to their streets. Struggle with their language. Tell them stories of your life and hear the stories of theirs. Watch how they love each other, how they fight each other. See what they value and what they fear. Feel the spaces they keep in their lives.
Become part of the fabric of their everyday lives. Give yourself over them and you will find that the beauty in their lives and their world will become part of yours.
When you move on, you will have grown. You will realize that the possibilities of life in this world are endless, and that beneath our differences of languages and culture we all share the dream of loving and being loved, of having a life with more joy than sorrow.
And when you have tragedies or great changes in your life, how else will you truly understand that there are a thousand, a million ways to live, and that your life will go on to something new and different and every bit as worthy as the life you are leaving behind?
